Hi Bluesky, I finally stopped being lazy and switched over to here. If you know me from other social media, then you know what to expect.

If you don't know me, I like to talk about science, water, and share pictures of my natural habitat (lost in the woods).

It's nice to see you all again!
It decided to snow a bit this morning and we rescued a poor hedgehog that got caught out in it instead of safely hibernating. He was taken to a wildlife rehab where they'll help him to gain some weight and be properly prepared for winter

Today is World Fisheries Day, so for #FishOfTheWeek let's talk about a fisheries issue that is becoming more and more common, reductions in size of fishes due to fishing pressure. This may seem like a small issue but is in fact a major problem for many reasons

It's time for #FishOfTheWeek and today I want to talk about a really cool fish that has become much maligned (not without reason) in North America. That's right, today we're gonna talk about the so-called Frankenfish. The snakehead

I didn't get to do #FishOfTheWeek last week because I was in Poland for field work, but it's gar week this week so of course I have to talk about one of my all-time favorite fishes. And there's a lot know, so get ready to learn something new

Just continuing my record of always living in a town with a river. This one is smaller than others, but still just as pretty

We also got to see the ruins of an old castle today, though sadly we didn't get to go inside

Today we got to see a massive rock structure with Neolithic age tool marks!

The rock structure was so big you almost can't see me in the pics!

Potato and leek soup, pumpkin gnocchi with chorizo, and house lemonade that tasted like if mulled cider was lemonade instead? And all for $9? And a tasty little berry cake from a 24 hour bakery for dessert? Yea, I had a delicious lunch today

Tried some Polish treats today. Apple and chokeberry shortbread cookies and chocolate covered chokeberries. Delicious!

Got to see some neat rock structures and a gorgeous view today. Poland is a beautiful country and I'm glad we got to see it in all its autumn glory

Did you know Poland has an accidental desert? This land was cleared in the 13th century for mining, and the underlying geology has since prevented the regrowth of the forest!

We got to see a 13th century castle today!

The national park here in Poland is so pretty I didn't want to leave it!

I'm in Poland for field work, but can I join the frog worship circle instead?

This is the most German thing I've seen on this app yet 🤣🤣
The German company that makes the mechanical ladder used in the Louvre heist has used the image to advertise, with the text 'When you need to move fast'

10/10 response, no notes

It's Friday, which means it's time for another #FishOfTheWeek! And today we're actually gonna talk about plankton. When most people think of plankton they think of algae, maybe bacteria. But plankton can be any organism unable to control their own movement in water (or air)

I've never seen Marktstraße so empty at 9:30 in the morning (except on Sundays). The rain really made everyone decide to stay home today

One of the things I'm enjoying most about Germany is the bread. I love that I can walk in and get a delicious loaf of fresh baked bread and pretzels. And it only cost me 2 euros! Americans are getting shafted on food prices

#Inktober2025 Day 17: Ornate
The Japanese white-spotted pufferfish creates elaborate geometric circles in the sand. This "sand art" is thought to attract females, making his work truly a labor of love. #Inktober

I forgot to post a #FishOfTheWeek yesterday because I was enjoying the new wine festival, but I've got a great one to make up for it. Meet the longest fish in the world at up to 30 feet long, the giant oarfish. This fish inhabits the least explored part of our world, and we know little about it

Tonight was the start of the federweisser festival in Landau. When you're the number 1 wine region in the country of course you have to celebrate all the new wines made this summer. Obviously, I got a glass of federwisser and some kartoffelpuffer and applesauce is a perfect dinner
