This was a delightful cover to illustrate because I had an excuse to draw Hudson’s unique (and very cute) bee mascot.

In DeValls Bluff, Arkansas, there was a place simply known as “Pie Shop.” You had to know it was there; it was a cinder block building behind a house on the highway. Mary Thomas made incredible fried pies, and I was lucky to have visited twice.
