Great meeting of the @ucc.ie ISS21 Disability and Mental Health Cluster today. It was heartening to see members think critically about disability and participation particularly within academic projects and partnerships.

Carers allowance to be non-means tested in Ireland which is welcome news but no word or confirmation on if disability allowance will be the same. It is shameful that disability allowance is means tested given the cost of disability on disabled people.

It’s fantastic that the @eurochild-org.bsky.social report “Children’s Realities in Europe: Progress & Gaps” has gained recognition among EU decision-makers! The focus must now shift to ensuring tangible actions are taken to address the lived experiences of children. eurochild.org/resource/chi...

Concerned about the developments in the UK and what’s surely coming this way. I believe in dignity and a right to die but I also very much believe in the right to life and supported living. Seeing what has happened in Canada is frightening and shows how it can all go badly wrong.

I don’t want to hear about the surprise of disability in election analysis on Saturday. Especially from non disabled people. Nothing was learnt from March referenda if anyone is surprised at the rage and despair. Perhaps finally we will stop the charity and enforce the rights.

The 'Acorn Savings Scheme' just differentiates the haves and have nots. Better-off families can add more to the savings product and end up getting more out of it. Wealth to accumulate wealth, and still insufficient resourcing for the most vital public services. #RTÉUpfront #GE24
