The #CPI2025 shows a clear gap between democracies & authoritarian regimes. Full democracies score 71 out of 100 on average, while authoritarian states score just 32. This underlines the importance of independent institutions.

States are increasingly restricting freedoms of expression, association and assembly.

In the #CPI2025, 36 of the 50 countries with significant score declines since 2012 have also seen reduced civic space. Learn more. ⬇️

The UN Convention Against Corruption adopted a resolution last December setting global standards for transparency and accountability in political finance.

Citizens must know who funds political campaigns.

In the wake of the United States’ shocking military intervention in Venezuela, Transparency International is calling for restoring democracy to be prioritised, to protect the rights of Venezuelans and address the country’s entrenched corruption crisis.

Last year, after our intervention, the UN dropped a planned US$30,000 fee for climate-related complaints. This win meant that communities facing the worst of the climate crisis could raise their voices without financial obstacles.

#CoSP11: 🎉 Last week, countries adopted a resolution that sets minimum standards for political finance transparency.

This is the first time this has happened since the UN Convention against Corruption entered into force 20 years ago.

#CoSP11: Political finance systems can be easily abused, with loopholes that allow money to disrupt democracy. Governments must act now to restore trust in institutions and to protect democracy from hidden influence.

The UN Convention against Corruption promises civil society a role in anti-corruption.

However, almost half of the countries reviewed by UNCAC received no recommendations on civil society participation.
