I have always felt an affinity with Canadians. They get British humour, share our dislike of the gauche and gaudy, and we even share a monarch. That's why I will be avoiding buying American products wherever possible. Trump's tariffs are completely unjustified.

Earlier this week, a UN Committee of rights experts sent a clear message to the UK government on social security: Reverse cuts and limits, cut wait times and assess cumulative impact of austerity. Don't look at social security purely through a back-to-work lens.

And today... this news.

Crazy thought, rather than slamming the poorest and most vulnerable with welfare cuts, maybe try taxing the rich? According to Oxfam, the wealth of Britain's billionaires grew by approximately by 182bn in 2024. That is obscene.

Social security is a human right.

The UK government should follow the CESCR's calls to:

- reverse the two-child limit
- end the benefit cap
- cut waits for Universal Credit
- assess cumulative impact of austerity-based welfare policy

Every day of inaction pushes more people into poverty

Strong men "get things done" in the same manner muggers "get things done". We don't celebrate muggers' cruelty and criminality, so it is baffling as to why some choose to celebrate those same selfish, narcissistic traits in our politicians.
