Snail cells in culture. Raising up these cuties for the cell biology lab I’m teaching. We will be extracting proteins from them, quantifying them, and visualizing them using SDS-PAGE.

I’m teaching microbiology this year. This week I learned to use the oil immersion lens on the compound scope. I also learned how to make a crystal violet-stained slide (pictured). The bacteria on the slide are from a black pepper infusion (black pepper + distilled water, incubated at room temp).

Someone loves chin scratches.

This semester I tried something new: I offered extra credit to show up at my office hours in the first two weeks. 1/4 of students have shown up so far. I learn about their interests, and they learn to approach me. I recognize them in class now. 100% doing this in the future.
