I met my first penguins in the Falkland Islands. At least 400 babies milled around while their parents were out catching dinner. While I sat as still as possible on a low cement bench, a group of 8 chicks surrounded me and proceeded to untie my shoelaces with their beaks. I had been accepted!

Creating a story is like being an iceberg... at first only the very tip of your idea is visible, while all the real work is going on somewhere below the surface. And then one day, if you try very hard, you tip yourself over and the entire body reveals itself.
