Somehow, with everything else that was going on last year, I failed to notice that my novel came out in paperback in the UK. So it was a pleasure at the shop today to open a box in which a handful of copies were buried under other people’s special orders. I’m celebrating with my favourite ramen 📚🍜

I’ve been thinking about this all day. Trying to narrow down my own supporting texts. Definitely John Berger’s 1953 essay ‘Drawing’. And I’m beginning to feel that Kate Briggs’s This Little Art is just such another bracing text. #KateBriggs24

I love Nathalie Leger’s attention to Barthes’s stationery in her Editor’s Preface to TPofTN: blue & black ink, felt-tip pen, paper clips, pieces of tape, & a ballpoint pen which “he did not like using … but, considering them useful for making the odd note, always carried…) p.xx #KateBriggs24

“At this hour all cats are grey & all carpets are beautiful; the colours, fused by the evening, acquire richness.” (p232) RW’s frequent evocation of colour made me think about her earlier mention of Goethe’s theory of colour (p155) & I just went down a rabbit hole. #BlackLamb24
