Went east Kansas City, north of Holden, and positioned myself looking northeast, was not disappointed! First time I’ve seen the northern lights in #Missouri in fact, first time I’ve ever seen them! It went from light green on the horizon and moved red in about 15 minutes.

Counted 29 Black Vultures (Coragyps atratus) at Sparrowfoot Park in Henry County, #Missouri on 03 Nov 2025. The largest number & latest date this far northwest I’ve ever recorded. The species is definitely expanding its range. Climate change is real, but we can’t talk about it in MO.

This Cackling Goose (Branta hutchinsii) with an injured wing has been at a park south of the KC Metro for more than a year. It seems to be doing well, usually associates with the larger Canada Geese.

Spiders are a diverse and somewhat misunderstood group of arachnids. Recently I was taught that tarantulas are not spiders. Is that true? What is a spider? What is a "true spider"? And how are they all related?
