Just heard a trainspotter describe Michael Palin as a “railway journalist.” I am screaming.

Urgh. There was meant to be a video attached, as opposed to a morbid joke.
Here’s the queen’s speech for anyone that missed it.

Turns out my own joke is so old that people are accusing me of plagiarism.

Deeply disappointed to hear that the BBC has pushed out one of the most brilliant presenters in all of science communication for speaking with integrity and honor in support of human rights and dignity.
Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

Collect licence.
Drive first train solo.
Go out for dinner.
See Mamma Mia at the theatre.

Feel like I might sleep well.

New pin badge day: This one marks the 60th anniversary of passenger hovercraft services. Very sexy.

I did a day trip to France by ferry the other week. Did I go and see the sights of Brittany? No, I looked at boats and rode on trains.

Burning air miles on business class flight home. In queue to board. A couple ask me if I can let them pass. Sure, there’s a few shops and seating areas nearby.

No, they were doing it to skip the queue. Heaven forfend someone not in a shirt and jacket flies in the posh seats.

It’s funny that people in Brexit land sing the praises of the SNCF, when it’s actually the worst advert for nationalised railways going. Yes, some of their trains are fast - but they’re really run-down. My TGV today was 25 mins late, then 40, then 60. Then it was 80. I’m due €4 back for this.

Celebrating finishing all my train driver exams the only way I know how: a solo car ferry “mini cruise” complete with empty swimming pool and tragic dinner choices.

Cracking story
OK - pie discourse - best pie story:

In 2016, we were living in Andover, in the UK. My wife was assigned as an exchange officer at the Army Air Corps base at Middle Wallop (yes, really).*

The US Army has a tradition: senior leaders, in dress uniform, serve junior troops Thanksgiving dinner.

I would urge the same in Scottish courts.
It remains my recommendation for anyone with even a passing interest in the law or the criminal justice system to spend a couple of days sat in your local magistrates court and watch what goes on. I would be surprised if it didn't affect your views.

It's Transgender Day of Remembrance today

Every year, hundreds of trans people pass away through anti trans violence, suicide lack of available healthcare to name just a few of the most common causes

This is far, far more than any other LGBTQIA+ group and that's just the ones we know we've lost
