I would call myself a realist, my wife would call me a pessimist, but my kids would call me an optimist. I like to think I'm just sardonic with a big heart.

Put about 300 American hazelnut and around 100 American plum seeds in the winter bed today while it was snowing. Love those moments where the air is chill and the only sound is that of the leaves rustling through the woods. That's my vibe.

The Virginia Creeper has finished cooking in the fridge. I have a little over 300 of these little gals with a whole bunch of mature oak trees in the area looking for friends.

My front yard is right across from our middle school. I am really looking forward to giving these kids native fruits to snack on and interact with.

I've got 6 haskap, 3 black currant, 3 jostaberry, 1 chickasaw plum, and 2 dwarf sour cherry going in next month.

May have went a little ham picking out some trees for the front yard but in my defense not only is #EdibleAcres an amazing place but it's for the school kids along our sidewalk!

Made some elderberry BBQ sauce with the girls. It tastes amazing by the way.

Sorry for being silent for any out there who cares. I tend to recede from the world in spurts and I believe myself to be more in forest hermit mode lately. I'll emerge from the oak-wood copse in due time, a wizard is never late.

A nice jaunt through the woods and rain this #Michigan morning with the kiddos got us a hefty haul of berries. Time to make some jam.

Lovely walk through the woods now that it's back feeling like it's less than 100 degrees out.

Found some sassafras today. Smells like lemon pledge when you crush the leaves. The bugs must like it as much as I do. #PureMichigan #NativeGardening #Spring2025 #NativePlants #Michigan

May have dropped a 2x6 on my foot but the frames are done at least.

Are they over-engineered for holding 600 pounds of soil? Probably. 'Will' it hold 600 pounds of soil? Hopefully. 😅

A short walk through my little piece of heaven. Surrounded on all sides here in town but one day I'll pass a conservation easement down to my daughters, mark my words. #Michigan #NativePlants #NativeGardening #NativeEcology #Ecology
