Every time I spend a few hours refining a single figure to be the most informative for the decision-maker is the reminder that there is absolutely no way that process could have been automated.

#Biopharma data teams often run as "analysis-as-a-service", but what we should be doing is building a durable data backbone that compounds value throughout organization.

In my recent Medium article I break down the "how".

What I personally love about industry (as opposed to academia) :

working under a brand creates a unified goal, and success of the company becomes your success, even if the source is, say, business development department. Academia doesn't do Team-work.

In 2019, TUM pulled my job offer because I refused to provide my marital status before my salary was set. Marriage as an institute is the biggest blow to a woman's career. Never reveal your marital status at work, not during negotiations neither afterwards! #gendergap

According to researchers at Munich's IFO Institute and the University of Oslo, women's wages in Germany drop 20% on average after marriage. Men's pay is unaffected.

With recent outages of pubmed and frequent inaccessible US-based bioinformatics repositories, it is clear that it is life-critical to have EU-based copies of those resources. OmicsChart is taking precautions, and so should you!
It's time for individuals and organizations in Europe and other democratic countries to move mission- or life-critical IT services and infrastructure outside the reach of the US government; noting that US tech companies have already largely subordinated themselves.

I lived as an immigrant in 6 countries, and without exception there were moments where I was treated as lesser human. That's not to complain, but to say: that's the life of an immigrant, and no country is perfect. Thats why I made a post describing my experiences

Everyone is flexing their intellectual muscle about the deep understanding of geopolitics, spheres of influence or art of negotiation, but its as simple as one of the first rules parents teach babies about living in a society: 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱.

Didn't expect my comment to make it into the Sifted article, but grateful it did! Just yesterday I attended #Munich #Innovation Ecosystem meetup, and they seem to be completely unaware that the startups are moving our from #Germany, and that its impossible to start a company as a foreigner here

How #Bavaria plans to become world #innovation center? Create 1,000 professorships so these professors can create 10,000 startups.
That's German #entrepreneurship mindset at its core. In the meantime, German entrepreneurs are moving their startups from Germany to elsewhere.

For the love of god stop prepending "AI" to every god-damn product or business model! Everyone is using AI! It's like adding MS Office to your resume: like you have nothing better to show off about your solution.

🤦‍♀️ You know you need a break when you spent like an hour trying to figure out why the changes in the code do not affect the page, just to realize that you've been staring at the production instead of your local!

In the last 5 years #Germany turned from being one of the best countries for skilled immigrant, to one of the worst. Getting residence permit extension used to take some 3 - 4 months.. I am waiting for over a year now... with no valid EU-issued ID and no answers to when. No contact via phone allowed

If a VC doesn't have a single portfolio company with even one female founder, I don't need to waste my time sending my pitch. I am not saying that these funds are purposely discriminative, but they clearly have not recognized that they have subconscious bias, so the outcome for me will be the same.

I think people don't realize the true burden of #immigrant #entrepreneur, especially when ur home country is unsafe. I can't extend my pass, so when it runs out - ☠️! Application for DE pass takes years. So I have a plan 3 years ahead. And if at any point it fails, I have to urgently move.

Computational sciences being female-dominated is not a thing of the past. My specialization "Theory of Probabilities and Mathematical #Statistics" (the foundation of modern #AI) had 10 girls and 4 boys. The "#DeepLearning" course back then was called "Theory of Statistical Decision-Making."
