Probably at the theatre. Or working at the Beeb on iPlayer. Or at the pub. Occasionally multitasking with two out of three 🏳️‍🌈
'Kyoto' at Soho Place has a very clever staging and it is an inspired choice to have the 'villain' narrate the story. Stephen Kunken does a fine job in this fast, funny, tremendously entertaining political thriller

I applaud 'Titanique' for its relentless silliness. At every point, it asks itself - but what would be the silliest thing we could do? - and then does that. Pure joy. Oh and the singing ain't bad either

'The Invention of Love' at Hampstead Theatre had a glorious Simon Russell Beale performance at its heart and a memorable act one scene where he sits chatting to his younger self (Matthew Tennyson - excellent). Funny (although I'm sure I missed tonnes of references), melancholy but a little too long

Robert Bathurst was magnificent in 'Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell' at the Coach and Horses. What a treat to see him up close, wandering around the pub. Performed with crumpled charm, the play was entertaining but slight. Worth it for the cat racing anecdote alone frankly

Saw the Friends rehearsal for the ROH 'Aida' at the weekend. Never seen that one and absolutely loved it. Glorious, building shaking choruses and a staging which, while not completely successful, was full of interesting twists. Raehann Bryce-Davis as Amneris was superb

Afraid to say that 'The Tempest' at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane didn't persuade me of the merits of the play. But it looked fantastic, the level of stagecraft from lighting, design, sound was high. Stand out performance from Mason Alexander Park (Ariel) glinting dangerously and singing beautifully

'Mrs. Doubtfire' at the Shaftesbury was a fun, uncomplicated evening of silliness. A very hard working ensemble and a couple of stand out production numbers kept things light, and bright and enjoyable

'Dr. Strangelove' at the Noel Coward was very enjoyable. The more farcical scenes working best and Coogan's Strangelove a truly fabulous, fun creation

My first trip of 2025 was to see The Importance of Being Earnest at @nationaltheatre.org.uk which was superb. Big, bright and very funny. Sharon D Clarke a standout in a top notch cast. Hopefully a sign of a good theatre year ahead

Going to try and remember to mention the theatre I see. Mostly to share the love but also, hopefully, to encourage myself to see more
