Today’s Rose of the Day is Russelliana. This hybrid multiflora climbing rose was bred before 1826, but the breeder and location are unknown. This fragrant rose blooms once a year, in summer, for weeks. The flowers are fragrant and beautiful, a rich pink that fades to pale lilac.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Reine des Violettes. This hybrid perpetual rose was bred in France in 1860 by Mille-Mallet. It’s got a strong fragrance and beautiful blooms. Mine is still pretty young. I’m looking forward to seeing it mature.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Pumpkin Patch. This gorgeous floribunda was bred by Christian Bédard in the US. It’s a smallish rose bush in my garden, with loads of blooms, and in the most gorgeous color.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Foxy Lady, a floribunda rose bred by Brad Jalbert in Canada. It has a mild fragrance and is mostly self-cleaning, no dead-heading necessary. It’s very healthy and the color is gorgeous!

Today’s Rose of the Day is Rosemantic Cream, a floribunda rose bred by Bernard Sauvageot in France for NIRP international. It’s fragrant, it’s healthy, and it’s hella gorgeous.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Polonaise. This shrub rose was bred by Dr Griffith Buck in the US as part of the Buck Roses collection. The Buck roses were bred to withstand harsh Midwest winters, down to zone 4. It’s also healthy, and the flowers remind me of dancers with twirling skirts.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Birthday Cake, a shrub rose bred in the US by Mike Shoup as part of his Pioneer series. The stripes are a lot of fun! It may not taste as yummy as the cake my daughter made me today, but it does look scrumptious. :)

Today’s Rose of the Day is Mystic Fairy, an easy-care, no-fuss shrub rose bred by Ping Lim in the US. A cross between Sevillana and The Fairy, this rose combines the best of both parents. It has the charm, health and abundant flowers of The Fairy, but the flowers are larger like Sevillana.

Today’s Rose of the day is Dogwood, a single-petaled hybrid tea bred by James Bailey in the US. This rose is a descendant of Dainty Bess. Both are lovely roses, but my Dogwood rose is definitely the more vigorous of the two.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Love Song. This floribunda rose was bred by Tom Carruth in the US. Sadly, I broke mine when I dropped the pot it was in, so it’s been set back a lot! It started sending out some growth right after the mishap. Hoping it recovers because it’s a gorgeous, gorgeous rose!

Today’s Rose of the Day is Promises. This shrub rose was bred by Mike Shoup in the US as part of his Pioneer series, and is a seedling of the Knock-Out rose. Promises is healthy and vigorous, and blooms often and profusely.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Deanna Krause, a shrub rose bred by Ray Ponton in the US. Deanna Krause has beautifully striped single-petaled flowers, inherited from its parent rose, Fourth of July. It’s fragrant, healthy, and vigorous enough to compete with my huge highbush cranberries.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Miss Grace. This pink shrub rose was bred by Allen Whitcomb in the US. It’s vigorous and healthy and has such a unique color-right between red and pink. It definitely stands out!

Today’s Rose of the Day is Burgundy Iceberg, a sport of the Brilliant Pink Iceberg rose, which is a sport of Pink Iceberg, which is a sport of Iceberg. Burgundy Iceberg is has the health of Iceberg, with maybe a little less vigor. Striking color, though.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Brilliant Pink Iceberg, a sport (spontaneous genetic mutation) of Iceberg. Like Iceberg, this rose is healthy and stays a nice manageable size in my garden. It blooms even more than Iceberg.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Iceberg. This floribunda rose was bred by Reimer Kordes in Germany, 1958. It’s been used in many breeding programs and has over 400 descendent roses! Iceberg is healthy, blooms often, and has good vigor once it’s established.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Aubade. I’m not sure who bred this beauty, but it was introduced in France by NIRP International. This lovely hybrid tea rose is healthy, with dark green leaves to set off the pale yellow flowers. In addition to its beauty, it’s also highly fragrant.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Vick’s Caprice. A sport of Archiduchesse Elizabeth d’Autriche, this hybrid perpetual was discovered by James Vick in the US around 1889. This rose is vigorous, disease-free and incredibly fragrant. Just a perfect rose.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Black Caviar. This gorgeous shrub rose was bred by Hans Evers for Tantau in Germany. It has striking colors and a strong fragrance, and grows into a nice vase-shaped shrub. A striking rose.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Scentuous, an English-style shrub rose bred by Tantau in Germany. The flowers are gorgeous and have a strong fragrance. The shrub is very healthy in my garden, though it struggled with foliar diseases the first two years. It’s definitely worth the wait!

Today’s Rose of the Day is Madame Pierre Oger. This Bourbon rose is a sport of Reine Victoria, discovered by Pierre Oger in 1878 France. Incredibly healthy, fragrant and nearly thornless, this rose really has it all.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Blushing Dogwood, a Polyantha rose bred by John Bagnasco and introduced this year by Heirloom roses. It’s very healthy, like most Polyantha roses in my garden. The flowers come in clusters and really do look like little dogwood blooms. They have a mild fragrance, too.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Malicorne, a floribunda rose hybridized by Georges Delbard in France, and named for his birthplace. Tall and vase-shaped, this rose blooms in huge flushes that last for weeks. It’s healthy, and I really love the dark red blooms.

Today’s Rose of the Day is Morden Snowbeauty. This shrub rose was bred by Lynn Collicutt in Canada. This rose is extremely cold-hardy and it’s also very resistant to blackspot. The blooms are very large and ruffly, and of course the pollinators love the open centers.
