Losing out on a job, tenure, or publication can be a unique agony. The cure is not success but rather compassion.

Our 20yr old daughter is off to study for 3 years to the Netherlands, where we first moved to 23 years ago, almost to the day (18/8/2002). As she hugged me goodbye she said “dad, thanks for all the help ❤️” 🥹

It's amazing to have the book in my hand now, after several years of working on it with Kasper and Per Ola.

In a nutshell, it's a new textbook for introductory-level HCI courses:
✅ 10 parts, covering the whole HCI process
✅ 864 pages and 1.9 kgs
✅ Open access (!)

DL just around the corner! Apply by May 15 if you're interested in advancing research on theory translation and games
Is your PhD research on game design, game production, HCI, or design theory? I've got three 2-year postdoc positions in my ERC StG project to investigate what makes theory useful and usable in game design / interaction design.

Reposts much appreciated. Thx!

Our ever smiling boy was born 🎂 on #MothersDay. Seventeen years later, both celebrations fall once again on the same day. Congratulations to both and to all mothers out there! ❤️

Ok, so apparently CHInosaur was active on the other site during #chi2025.

For a while, I thought CHInosaur had evolved into @chiyote.bsky.social. Perhaps not?

I hope I can be half as awesome as the #chi2025 keynote speaker, Wakamiyu Masako, when I grow up. She’s a technology legend at 90!

Masako Wakamiya’s #chi2025 closing keynote ‘Designing Beyond Age: Rethinking Inclusion and Interaction in a 100-Year Life’: “elderly people will eventually find it difficult to go out […] and may think this is impossible to escape [but] with digital technologies, it’s no longer impossible.”

Concept artist @kortizart.bsky.social (Marvel, Dr. Strange) at the #chi2025 panel on “Forging an HCI Research Agenda with Artists Impacted by Generative AI”:

“Consider concept artists’ hard labor that is taken for free. […] It’s really disrespectful.”

If you are at #chi2025 you should go to an altchi session. It’s the last time altchi will ever run and your last opportunity to see its joy, creativity, and alterity. There is nothing like it

dont worry about fomo for not catching the hot LLM session, there will be more of those I promise

Please note that the walk from Minatorimai station (1), to Pacifico Yokohama North (2) to pick up your #chi2025 badge, and the National Convention Hall (3) for the opening plenary is easily a 15-25 minute walk.
