This should be monitored to find out how effective the shark fishing ban was and then how opening up shark fishing will affect the shark population after the ban.

controversial take: Lots of overfishing would end if fishing boats had to pay retail rates for thier fuel. governments diesel fuel used by fishing boats keep them fishing when they would not make a profit otherwise.

If you want to know about the history of fishing, read The Unnatural History of the Sea by Dr. Callum Roberts

Published in the mid 2000s, so probably needs some updating, but it's very good!

Some of the talking points on fishing 400 years ago were probably pulled from that book
