By starting for NYCFC today, Aiden O’Neill becomes the first O’Neill wearing No 21 to start a home playoff game at Yankee Stadium since November 1, 2001, World Series Game 5 aka Paul’s final home game for the Yankees

Astoria businesses sued to block this in part by arguing it will (illogically) make the street less safe. By suing, they’ve accomplished exactly what they claimed to want to prevent: 31st now an incomplete, confusing, dangerous mess for cyclists/drivers & likely stays that way for months, great work
Unfinished Astoria Bike Lane Languishes As Judge Delays Lawsuit Ruling - Streetsblog New York City
The completion of Astoria's 31st Street protected bike lane may get pushed to next year if a Queens judge doesn't make up her mind soon.

We @hudsonriverblue.com have now shared a field with the current and future mayor of NYC, though Eric Adams did not organize a 5-a-side tourney he just breezed through Citi Field pre-NYCFC while wearing a hat that said “Mayor Adams” on it

Wrote something a little different during the break that I hope MLS PR considers, as national outlets keep decreasing coverage and now AI content is replacing writers. Someone had to say something before media access just gets worse. (Free post) www.patreon.com/posts/141166...

This taught me to never doubt the importance of a ref inspecting a goal and its netting before a match
Mind the Gap: Goal scored through side netting in local Open Cup Qualifier
Doxa FCW are officially protesting a 2-1 loss to Lansdowne Yonkers FC in Sunday's US Open Cup Qualifier after a ball that seemingly went out of bounds and through the side netting was called a goal.

West Ham might never win on the pitch but at least they’ve twice this transfer window forced Fabrizio Romano to delete incorrect “here we go” posts in shame. Would be avoiding relegation if they got points for that

Perfect for Walmart, zero locations in NYC, to sponsor a Men In Blazers event ostensibly about “celebrating New York soccer” with a slate of Red Bull players/staff, a Knick from NJ, another Knick known for being a Villanova Guy. Bridge and Tunnel Night and at NYC’s worst venue, Terminal 5, too

Revisiting this interview with Maxime Chanot I conducted not too long after he left NYCFC. Will be watching to see how his coaching career progresses now that he’s hung up the boots, natural leader who wears it all on his sleeve www.hudsonriverblue.com/maxime-chano...
Maxime Chanot on his new academy, coaching aspirations, NYCFC exit
In an exclusive interview, Chanot discusses launching his La Fabrique academy, the start of his coaching journey, and his NYCFC departure.

Meanwhile the handful of bitter Astoria business owners suing to stop the bike lane try to argue that installing said bike lane will make the road, currently too sketchy for the next mayor to bike on, more dangerous for cyclists. Make it make sense (it doesn't/they simply love illegal parking)
"I stopped biking on 31st Street and I started biking on 35th Street because of the fact that I did not want to jeopardize my life each and every day," said @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social. nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/08/25/m...

Drivers kill pedestrians + cyclists in Astoria on the regular, children included, but an aggrieved group of businesses is suing to block NYC Dept of Transportation from making street safety improvements b/c they don’t want a bike lane installed to disrupt some of their free parking

The lads love the tournament, maybe FIFA should try floating a 700 pound 5-story tall replica of the Club World Cup trophy down the Gowanus Canal to help raise the excitement level around the semis and final, hear that’s the marketing move these days
It took a while, but now we love the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup
With the final three games of the 2025 Club World Cup taking place at MetLife Stadium, we take stock of a tournament that has won us over.
