Because we are conditioned to consume and spend over the next few days, may I suggest that, instead of feeding the Walmart or Amazon beasts, you buy local from your friendly merchants? Buy books from local authors at local bookstores. Buy original art from galleries in your town.

I recited the Pledge of Allegiance every morning at school for 12 years. You could be punished for refusing even once. In public school, we had to take the pledge 2,160 times. I don't mind telling people that I am a proud American. I love my country. But..c'mon.

Someone asked me when this country was EVER united? I had to realize that it was only when we agreed there was an existential threat. We were civil through the Cold War and World War 2. We dropped the kafabe for a while after 9/11. If we don't have an enemy out there, we'll make them here.

MTG was the kid who sided with the bully for protection and power, but then dared to open her mouth ONCE in dissent. Now she's lost all the protection and privilege that made up for her weaknesses and flaws. Sadly, the GOP Governor will send up someone who might be worse. We will see.

It's been 25 yrs. I remember when Cheney was the Emperor behind a military-industrial complex desperate to keep flush in cash after the fall of the USSR. 9/11 made Cheney a rich(er) man with the wars that they started and destabilized the US after its post-war peace dividend. Now?
