Seems like most are disappointed the Dems in the Senate are caving, even the furloughed federal worker. Seems like a bad idea to give up after all this time. Most seem to feel betrayed by the Dems in the Senate… Don’t do it. “1000 points of light. Stay the course” as George H. W. Bush used to say…

I think this is more nuanced than that. I don’t think the Dems actually expected the Republicans to agree to the compromise. But it forces the Republicans to go on record saying they wouldn’t negotiate. This will be good to have on the record for the midterms in 26.
i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?
