Lots of folks are asking what they can do to be helpful in this moment. I like the short list of action items that @choosedemocracy.bsky.social lists on their site. Democratic civil society is about being stronger together. Any effective strategy flows from that. choosedemocracy.us/what-can-i-do/

My thoughtful friend gifted me this gorgeous yarn from her recent trip. I just wound it into a ball & am thrilled by the prospect of making something beautiful from her generosity. My little act of resistance for the day—finding joy in creating something enduring from a humble piece of string. ❤️🧶

Marian Anderson gave a voice to the Civil Rights movement.

She was denied a stage because of racism. So she created one to sing at.

Seriously, creative folks: Don't be afraid to let people know your stuff is out there for them, or worry that "now is not the time for that." People are stressed and freaked out and looking for the things that will give them a moment of rest and joy. It is EXACTLY the time for what we do. Tell them.

Give light, and the darkness will disappear of itself. — Desiderius Erasmus

This makes me think about the eclipse last April. We were in the path of totality but we marveled at how bright it was with just the tiniest sliver of light from the sun. Keep putting your light out there, folks. ☀️☀️☀️

I'm not teaching my grad course 'Civil Resistance: How It Works' this semester. But here is an abridged version of the course schedule, readings, and films I used the last time I taught it (in 2022). Just in case it's useful. drive.google.com/file/d/14RRJ...
