Of course, this satire could not possibly resonate with Canadian city dwellers. Too over the top!
In this satirical work by
a 19th-c. Russian writer, a shiny new town mayor shows up. Nobody knows why, but everyone likes a new mayor. Yet one day he's found in his office with his head separate from his body, and his head has no brain! Shocking, but the mayor keeps talking, remains mayor. Absurd!

Are there any cities in Canada where the mayor and suburbs don't blockade the city and wreck it?

In the past, a mayor would
have found that debate on Lansdowne absolutely humiliating. I listened to that debate for a
few hours, and I thought the pro-Lansdowne people were utterly unprepared and clueless about basic economic and policy concepts. But they don't seem to notice.

I have many family memories of trying to drive my kids to ballet and swimming and being cut off left and right by people driving to RedBlacks games, running red lights and stop signs, and making chaotic U-Turns.

Once again, the Mayor shows his unfamiliarity with basic statistical concepts, despite a fondness for spinning numbers. You cannot have a "sample size" of two years. A sample size is a number of people surveyed or of items being researched. Two years is rather a short duration, not a sample.

Oh, ffs. How dare you presume to know what creates "cherished memories" for Ottawa residents? How dare you? What cherished memories will NOT have an opportunity to be formed if this goes forward? What makes these people so determined to earn the contempt and scorn for the taxpayer?

Wow, some of you City Councillors think the public is very stupid. Do you know that members of the public are here in the room?

If "The Fountainhead" was re-written for the 21st century, Howard Roark would be saying "Gimme some government handouts so I can do The Soaring Architecture while maintaining my penthouse lifestyle, you Commies!"
I just bought this at a used bookstore so that somebody else couldn't. I'm petty that way.

I read it at age 18. I enjoyed the "love" story, prob because I'd watched too much General Hospital due to a long convalescence from a virus, and as a result I had very low standards for romance novels.

What I'm saying is the idea that we
need Lansdowne for the economy is an idea that gazes at, and benefits, privileged men. Let's have better public transport so that
more retired ladies (and gents) can buy more tickets to more events, buy more books, when they have to give up driving.
Let's talk about WHO keeps the
Ottawa economy going. Since I retired, I've realized there is a large community of engaged, active retired people, many of them women. They go to festivals, book launches, craft workshops. They run 10k's and do dragon boat. They
buy theatre, concert tickets, eat out.

Wrote to the mayor's office with concerns, and received a very condescending and rather off-topic reply from somebody.

Newly retired professor here. I'm really pretty good at spotting when someone has used AI to write an email.

Not exactly the A-team when it comes to communications, is it?

I pull into a legal parking space
Driver of illegally parked truck asks me to move, says I've boxed him in
Me: That doesn't look like a parking space
Him: I'm just loading up for a minute
Me: I'm just getting coffee for a minute. You can wait
HA! to all you fools who block a bike lane "for a minute"

New Polling Results on Lansdowne 2.0 from Nik Nanos. The more people know about the plan, the more they don’t like it. Most believe it won’t stay on budget, would prefer repairs to existing, oppose the loss of greenspace and arena capacity and extra debt.
