Since it's sleeting and terrible out, I decided that now is the right time to join the Buster Book Club. His selections all reflect his main interest (food), so first up is Automatic Noodle, by @annaleen.bsky.social

It looks like Son No. 2 will be following in the illustrious footsteps of U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes, actor Paul Newman, Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme, "Calvin & Hobbes" cartoonist Bill Watterson and that guy from "How I Met Your Mother" when he matriculates to Kenyon College this fall.

I'm really not sure what the point of Bluesky is since 99% of us get close to zero engagement. I'm willing to talk and make friends/acquaintences (while refusing to be a "follow" farmer), but it just feels like I'm writing in a private diary. I might as well confess to all the murders I've ... ahem.

Early results are available from my ongoing experiment on Reddit, and the overwhelming consensus is that Bill Rutherford is an unprofessional, pretentious asshole and Joel Goodson needs to report him to Princeton University immediately and demand a new interview with a different interviewer.

Apparently, there's a Larry Fine species of humanoid in the universe, the Larrians.

Wife is giving me her Ralph Kramden "to the moon, Alice!" look (it helps that she has a strong resemblance to Jackie Gleason). OMG! "Bang, zoom!" she just said. Apparently (that word again), I'm ruining TV for her.

"Risky Business" popped into my head today, and this is my favorite scene.
Looks like University of Illinois!

Listened to a painful conversation between two of my co-workers about going to the dentist. Basically, they don't go — unless something hurts. They don't do the biannual check-ups that their insurance completely covers, the rational being that their teeth don't stay clean after the "cleaning"... 1/3

Yesterday's work project. 4x4x20-inch wooden posts in the ground, encased in 100-plus-pounds of concrete, with 10-inch TimberLOK screws connecting the legs to the posts. The bench is in the woods, only visible to people on the trail, more than a mile from the parking lot.

Someone's gonna steal it.

This appeared on my office door overnight.

Jan. 12 holiday party? That's even too late for Orthodox Christmas, which is Jan. 7.

I have no idea what's happening. Has the Trump Administration done something weird and stoopid with the calendar?

Work on Monday took me to one of our cypress ponds, then one of our non-cypress ponds where the disc golf baskets grow. Then it was off to a boat ramp that lacks cypress trees and disc golf (we're working on it) but has views of a shipyard that builds small cruise ships.

Thank you, Lucy Lawless, in "My Life Is Murder," for the book suggestion, Ngaio Marsh's "Photo Finish."

I've read the first book in the Inspector Alleyn series, and PI Alexa Crowe (Lawless, which would be a great name for a police investigator; opportunity missed) is holding the 31st book.

My 2025 in reading.

This year, I resolve to read fewer Christies (easy enough, because I'm running out of Agathas on my library apps) and more ... I don't know.

I like this quote from Agatha Christie's
"Cards on the Table," which I'm currently reading. (Mrs. Oliver is a mystery writer and suspiciously resembles Christie herself.) Reminds me of the poorly plotted timeline we live in.
