Meet Dr. Sussman, working for the US Army Corps of Engineers Geospatial Research Laboratory. Her dissertation focused on studying the seasonality, diurnal cycle, and factors that influence the urban heat island of Bengaluru, India. Heather serves on the awards and symposium committee of the BUE.
June 25, 2025 at 4:32 PM
We are excited to feature Dr. Dragan Milosevic, an Assistant Professor at Wageningen University, Netherlands. He is a member of the BUE committees on awards and organization of webinars. Dragan brings over 12 years of expertise in urban hydrometeorology, biometeorology, and microclimates.
June 18, 2025 at 5:36 PM
Meet Dr. Chandana Mitra, who leads the evaluation of students' presentations for the BUE board. Dr. Chandana is a human-environment researcher, examining urban heat impacts, the relationship between heat and health, vulnerability assessments of communities, and climate change education.
June 16, 2025 at 4:17 PM
Meet Ariane Middel, Associate Professor at Arizona State University and President International Association of Urban Climate. Ariane leads the STAC awards committee for the @amsurbanclimate.bsky.social. Ariane and her team study urban heat using novel sensing technologies and climate modeling.
June 11, 2025 at 7:05 PM
Meet Dr. Shreevastava, a postdoctoral researcher at Caltech’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and an incoming Assistant Professor at NYU, starting in Fall 2025. Her work integrates remote sensing, statistical physics, economics, and engineering to advance urban resilience and sustainability.

@jkaranja.bsky.social is a PhD student in GIScience at ASU. His research bridges GIS, vulnerability, and health geography—modeling heat risk and how decisions shape our understanding of exposure, capacity, and vulnerability. He focuses on heat-related health outcomes and spatial inequalities.
June 4, 2025 at 4:41 PM
Meet @xjhuang.bsky.social PhD candidate at Princeton University, focusing on urban cooling solutions and human thermal comfort. As an AMS BUE student member since 2024, he is committed to serving as a student representative and enhancing awareness of BUE activities in the urban environment community

Just one of several talks and posters today on Cities and Climate. Chaired by @neginnazarian.bsky.social #ams2025
Elie Bou-Zeid providing a nice overview of #urbanclimate connecting it to #urbanmeteorology. Great diagram highlighting the variability in the #UHI. The prevalence of the UHI is apparent at multiple time scales, including diurnal and sub-diurnal scales. #ams2025
