No I just think we are making a lot of assumptions about unspecified strangers and what they do or do not believe about gender essentialism based on the fact that there are some (specifically bottom) ferdinand characterizations some of us think are super OOC that they like to put out in the world

Pre TS their whole deal was that they don't like each other and I have deffo read fic with pre TS scenarios that is sort of like "I don't like you, you don't like me, let's fuck about it!" but as that implies both of them are still combative with each other despite boning so no meek ferdies here

I just have a hard time really getting this because it's so not like anything I have read about them even in those scenarios but it's not like you can do any concrete examples without putting some poor soul on blast

all I can say about that is that I have been able to avoid this for years so it doesn't register as a problem to me personally but I see why it would bother people if you happen onto it unprovoked

If that is not the problem and you have encountered so many fics in which ferdie is a blushy whiny maiden at the mercy of eeeevil hubert where that isn't explicitly the conceit of the fic for whatever reason then yeah that IS a very strange OOC ferdie!

I think the reason we disconnect here is because to me I don't understand how the words naive and innocence necessarily correlate with insecurity? You can be both of those things without being insecure.
