We asked people who lived in homeless encampments that were cleared out in city “sweeps” to write about what object was the hardest for them to lose.

“They took my baby pictures and my moms obituaries,” a 29-year-old in California wrote.
“I Have Lost Everything”: The Toll of Cities’ Homeless Sweeps
Cities often take belongings — including important documents and irreplaceable mementos — when they conduct sweeps of homeless encampments. ProPublica gave notecards to people across the country so…

I hate RFK Jr. with a passion. He is a bad person. But please stop referring to his heroin use as having anything to do with his moral depravity. Addiction is not a moral failing, it is a public health and clinical issue.

I hate policing language but this is becoming an issue -

Please stop saying “addict”. I do not care that you’re describing RFK or Elon.

“RFK won’t see your post but your friends who use drugs will” has been repeated ad infinitum. Come on.

Using heroin is probably the most human thing about him.

Nobody involved in social movements / direct action / social work / legal aid ever uses the word “felon” as a pejorative. This is a fundamental disconnect between moderates who love to dunk on Trump and those who work and organize every day on the front lines of injustice.

SAMHSA, the agency that oversees the country's mental/behavioral health, is in chaos.

It just lost 10% of its workforce. Regional offices were gutted. The cuts could imperil efforts to curb drug overdoses and mental health crises. More cuts could be coming, too.
