Despite electricity being restored, the 112 emergency line in Asturias now having major problems. Also seems as though telecommunications are out on Canary Islands, which weren't even affected by the blackouts today. Strange. #apagon

Light's back on in Oviedo. But for the 8ish hours it was off, it was kind of magical. Everyone chill, patios full, kids everywhere, few cars, fewer people on phones. Stores dark and open, but customers were orderly. Blackout was not easy for many, but the city was generally vibing. Love Spain.

The nightclub in Spain where at least 13 people died on Sunday was ordered to close in Jan. 2022 because of a non-authoritized construction project. When one of the local authorities was asked why it was still open, he said: "It's impossible to have a record of whether a place is open or not." 🤷‍♀️

Yesterday, peninsular Spain broke its October record for heat with 38.2 C (100.8 F). Yikes. Experts say 'summers' are getting longer due to climate change, with one estimate saying Spain's summers have increased by an average of two months in the last 100 years.
