The one area where the current presidential administration is a force for progress is in promoting the phaseout of animal experimentation. Support for moving former lab animals to homes or sanctuaries is the latest step, and I'm grateful to friends at the Physicians Committee for their role in this.
The NIH announced that federal grant funds can now cover the cost of rehoming animals after experiments. Instead of being killed, animals can be adopted or sent to sanctuaries.

23 years ago, as a new US Dept of State civil servant, I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution, administered to my class by Sec Colin Powell — a defining life event. I’m retired now, but still #HonoringMyOath this #ConstitutionDay. Want more people in gov’t today to honor theirs.

I’ve not before spent birthdays at political events—but my US House district, the PA 10th, is one of 18 expected to determine party control of that body in 2026. So the best thing I could do tonight was attend Janelle Stelson’s new campaign launch, where @governor.pa.gov announced his endorsement.

I was recruited by the State Dept as part of a major hiring wave in the weeks after 9/11/2001. Decision-makers came to realize the value of diplomats that day, after State's ranks had been cut in the 1990s.

Just sayin'.

I retired some time ago, and am thinking of my former colleagues today.
