I started my investing career in 1987 entirely using mutual funds. I added individual equities as my portfolio and experience grew. In 2013, I started trading options, mostly cash covered puts. I soon realized I was using a lot of margin with cash covered puts so switched to put credit spreads.
Many thought that the danger to the USA was Russia, China or maybe even North Korea. They were wrong. The real danger came from within.

It seems that the last few weeks some of the riffraff from x have started to arrive and spoil things. I hope @bsky.app take Blocks into account in their ranking algorithms.

Two additions on Friday.

A put credit spread (bull put spread) on $STNE for Jan 10th - STNE is a Brazilian fintech.

A cash secured put on $SLS for Dec 20th - SLS is a clinical-stage drug company focused on cancer treatments.

This paper, which replicates some of Merton’s work, has some interesting findings on several well known simple option strategies. I will investigate more and consider selectively applying the PPUT strategy.

I added futures trading in 2018, mostly for hedging a substantial diversified stock portfolio. I maintain 85% of my portfolio in stocks, a small mutual fund allocation mostly for small caps and international exposure. The remaining 15% is the allocation I use for option and futures trading.

From 2013 to 2017 I was primarily an option seller. When VIX fell below 10 in 2017-2018 I had to totally relearn options, there was just no premium in selling options.
