Rewatching
Dick Tracy (1990) dir. Warren Beatty

I’ve been watching this movie since I was an infant. I can recite the whole film by memory, WILL act out scenes with Al Pacino, and WILL sing along with Madonna. Each viewing of this movie has always been a full moon certified experience for me!
I am on another Kubrick journey right now. I decided to FINALLY watch Barry Lyndon for the first time.

A ★★★★★ review of Barry Lyndon (1975)
I will argue that Kubrick constructed Barry Lyndon as a single, elaborate chess game. This is not a biopic meant to enrich one’s mind. Instead, this a masterpiece in naturalistic aesthetics. This film...

Carlito’s Way has a fierce following, but I simply couldn’t get engaged by this film, which is unfortunate, cause I really wanted to like this. That being said, this movie has some stellar camera work 👌🏻

A ★★½ review of Carlito's Way (1993)
I know it’s wrong to look at a film from a contemporary lens, but I can’t help but notice that there are components within Carlito’s Way that inadvertently AGE this film, give this film that blatant “...

Rewatching No Country for Old Men was such a treat this evening. It’s been at least 10 years since I last saw it!

A review of No Country for Old Men (2007)
The Coen brothers really did Cormac McCarthy proud with this gem of a film. It’s a modernist-minimalistic masterpiece.

It could be argued that Detour (1945) is the blueprint that made possible films like, The Out-of-Towners (1970), After Hours (1985), Blue Velvet (1986), Fargo (1996), and even an episode from The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1973)!

A ★★★½ review of Detour (1945)
Detour (1945) just may be the foundational film that set in motion the film structure of one’s initial moment of bad luck spiraling into an abyss of more bad luck that becomes “the worst day alive.” I...

Every year there’s that handful of prospective nominees that ultimately didn’t make the cut. For the 2025 cinema year, it was highly competitive and it was inevitable some would be snubbed. Therefore, here is my list of the most egregious snubs/surprises for this year’s Oscars:

31st Academy Awards, April 1959.

With concerns about running over on time, Producer Jerry Wald frantically cut materials from the broadcast. As the ceremony drew to an end, producers realized the ceremony was going to run 20 minutes short, with nothing further scripted.

Cate Blanchett IS Lydia Tár. Her performance is so authentic that it’s almost frightening to watch. No Oscar win necessary. This is the sort of performance that ultimately will supersede any award it didn’t win.
