The government reopened, but Congress failed to protect affordable health care. Families across the Deep South now face doubled premiums and rising costs. The SPLC will continue to fight for access to quality care for every community. #HealthCareAccess

“She was on probationary status only because she was promoted. So she was doing everything right.” “It’s important for President Trump and members of Congress to see people like Katie, who aren’t just faceless individuals.”
Dream promotion ends with a DOGE layoff for Baltimore federal worker
Democrats are inviting laid-off federal workers like Katie Stahl to the Capitol on Tuesday to call attention to what they say have been indiscriminate job cuts.

I find it very hard to empathize or sympathize with this woman. You voted based on your own desire for free IVF, in a country where there are nearly 400,000 children in foster care. And despite knowing the man for whom you voted is a vile misogynist.
She hoped Trump’s victory would change her life, but not like this
Ryleigh Cooper is normally more focused on motherhood than politics. Then came DOGE.

Oh, barf. Also, having reasonable policies for people who choose to have children shouldn’t be called “pro-natalist.” That’s just basic human decency and respect for living beings.
Why the Left Should Embrace Pronatalism
If concerns about population decline are sometimes overstated, the effects of an aging society are genuinely troubling from a prosocial point of view.

“The new levies[…]will disproportionately damage employment opportunities in counties which voted for Trump, according to Brookings Institution research, with around two-thirds of all jobs in industries affected by the tariffs in Trump-voting areas of states like Indiana, Michigan and Texas.”
Chinese tariffs to take effect, ratcheting up trade war with U.S.
Chinese tariffs on U.S. products including LNG, coal and agricultural equipment are set to be imposed Monday, in response to Trump’s 10 percent blanket levy.

Donald Trump’s "contempt for government employees is not driven by some sort of noble, reformist instinct: He distrusts public service because he does not understand it," Tom Nichols writes.
Trump and Musk Are Destroying the Basics of a Healthy Democracy
An apolitical bureaucracy run by public servants who respect the law is one of the greatest achievements a society can attain—and these two men have no respect for it.

“The end game for Musk seems to be just as it was with Twitter: seize a polarized, inefficient institution; fuse his identity with it; and then use it to punish his enemies and reward his friends. DOGE is a moon-shot program to turn the government into Musk’s personal political weapon.”
The ‘Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly’ of the United States Government
