The Accidental Locavore is about what I’ve eaten and cooked, with an emphasis on local and fresh. The posts are centered around my food adventures and recipes. It’s always a surprise, and it’s always about real food for real people
Before we went to Morocco, I was warming up with some Moroccan-inspired dishes. This fish and potato dish comes together in under an hour.

Frank is a big anchovy fan and this chicken recipe was getting hundreds of raves on the NYT Cooking site (and people actually used chicken), so it was what was for dinner recently.

I love to eat biryani, but have never attempted one at home until now. The most labor-intensive part of this is rounding up the spices, and you probably have most of them.

Marrakesh, Part 2

During the week in Marrakesh we got to experience lots of new things. Camel rides, motorcycles and side cars through the medina (and in a rare rainstorm) and some amazing food!

I was telling a friend how much I missed eating manti (a Turkish dumpling) and she suggested making an easy version with pasta. So I did.

If oysters are on your menu for New Year’s Eve (or whenever), one of my favorite toppings is a mignonette sauce. I recently made 2 for a friend’s Christmas Eve soirée.

Don’t you love it when a recipe, like this one with shrimp, looks good, you have all the ingredients on hand, and it’s a one pan dinner?

Someone on Facebook had photos of a chicken dish with lemon and za’atar from Falastin and it looked good and easy. You’ll need some time to marinate.

Now that I’m getting to be a regular with the fishmonger (who calls me Madame New York), we’ve added cod and other fish to our dinner table.  For this, softening the butter is the most time-consuming part, so you know it’s easy.

This is my favorite way to roast a duck and is often my Thanksgiving turkey replacement.

Slow Roasted Duck Recipe
This is my favorite way to roast a duck and is often my Thanksgiving turkey replacement. If you've got an afternoon, and need an excuse to binge watch ______, this is your meal. The fact that it couldn't be easier, or more delicious, are just bennies. A V-shaped roasting rack helps, but you can do it with a regular rack and roasting pan.

I’ve been curious about salsa macha — the Mexican version of chili crisp — for a while but the recipes usually have too many nuts, so I haven’t tried it until now.

These chicken thighs are sooooo crispy you’d think they were fried, and maybe in a way they sort of are. This requires a bit of time and attention, but you’ll find it totally worth it!

This shrimp curry comes together while your rice is cooking, but if you’re really pressed for time, you can make the curry sauce ahead of time and add the shrimp at the last minute.

This cilantro lime dressing was on the Smitten Kitchen site as part of a salad that looked good but had corn in it, which is hard (and expensive) to find here in France. Cilantro and lime are winners for me, so I gave it a shot.
