On paper Joachim Trier's films should be right up my alley; he has a strong feel for character, is wonderful with actors, very empathetic in his storytelling and likes to sometimes dwell on minor tangents in his episodic structuring. And yet, and yet... something just hasn't clicked for me (so far).

I like the early game in Kanto a lot because every section has a new and memorable dungeon (Mt. Moon, SS Anne, etc.), but the progression in the mid and late game is horribly unbalanced and it's kinda crazy that this whole bottom right section is completely irrelevant if you want to finish the game.
