still stargazing
hmmm not endorsing, just observing here. but the DOE throwing the kitchen sink at delisting CO2 from the Clean Air Act feels a little destabilizing

regulatory control is the public's means of addressing negative externalities, eliminating that begs for those costs to then be settled out of court

ooof I'm actually [redacted] and based this number off nameplate capacity and not annual output, actual number is much closer to 10 W/m2...

there are some plants running higher than the 15 W/m2 limit proposed by Smil today in the UAE, but still bad look dude. dont do math angry

a while back I was reviewing the 2024 Bettering Human Lives report, the author of which is now the head of the DOE. its still sitting in a draft somewhere, but I want to nitpick some of the bits on renewable energy for a minute

my two most inflammatory opinions appear to be
“killing people is bad” and
“there are consequences for electing stupid people”

“no no trust me dude if you wanna have anything intelligent to say about climate tech you need to fully grok ai trajectories. no publishing the energy bits until you’ve read all of Ilia’s research papers”

the elimination of the aristocracy has only been successful in removing the moral obligations between classes, not the underlying power imbalances, and in this way the proletariat is directly responsible for ballooning inequality. in this essay i will
unfortunately the trouble w the rich is that the rest of us killed any sense of nobility they might have once had

The future is made of energy | Orca Notes
A megatrend way bigger than decarbonization is probably the key to abundance and sustainability both.

the emphasis on ai demand being the key issue here drives me a little insane. afaict data centers are pretty tech agnostic, the looming natural gas overbuild is a product of those turbines being the most dispatchable tech around

AI could keep us dependent on natural gas for decades to come
AI data centers are driving a surge in new natural-gas power plants around the country. What does that mean for our clean-energy aspirations?

so latent spaces are data compression but are they usually lower dimensional? semantic space/distance appears in my head sorta geometrically but i have no idea if this is more or less complex than plain ole language
