Kang Yoon-sung's The Outlaws (originally 범죄도시) is a fun ride! Vicious bad guys are up to all kinds of blade-fu while Ma Dong-seok's crooked but not bent cop tries to stop the streets of Seoul from becoming a river of blood. Now I'm on to The Roundup movies- can't wait!

Nobody 2 is a fun watch thanks to Bob Odenkirk's chops, comedic and literal, along with Terrifier-level inventive killing gags. What more do you need on a Friday night? A fan of director Timo Tjahjanto's The Night Comes for Us, it's great seeing him start strong in Hollywood.

As a HUGE fan of film noir and Jim Thompson I dug Sterlin Harjo's The Lowdown. The story of duplicity and greed, clear sense of place (Tulsa), and excellent cast lead by Ethan Hawke make for a fun show. Along with Reservation Dogs, Harjo is on a roll!

Breaking Classic Thursday's black & white "rule," this week we went with Powell and Pressburger's A Matter of Life and Death from 1946. A great film- very cool to see the original source material that has been referenced in so many movies and TV shows over the years...

Enjoyed R.T. Thorne's 40 Acres- a dystopian thriller/family drama, which seems like a stretch though not when you've got a scorching lead performance from Danielle Deadwyler holding it all together. Cool movie!

Five Season's in, Mick Herron and Will Smith's Slow Horses has been so consistently great that they make it look easy. Gary Oldman's Jackson Lamb is one of my favorite characters on TV- there's no one like him. "Do nothing" indeed!

Beautiful day today so on the bike it was, accompanied by a soundtrack with international flair- new records from Halifax, Nova Scotia's Sloan and Stockholm, Sweden's The Genuine Fakes. What a ride!!

While it's no Mayor of Easttown, I found Brad Inglesby's Task to be a very compelling show. I appreciate his efforts to explore fatherhood and the ways fathers go about/fall short providing for their families. After so much strife, it was gratifying to end on a hopeful note.

Sorry, Baby blew me away- a smart, compassionate film about overcoming trauma that rings true throughout. A stunning debut from Writer/Director/Star Eva Victor! Can't wait to see what Victor does next...

The latest Rockumentary Workout is a heartbreaker- Questlove's Sly Lives! (aka The Burden of ̶B̶l̶a̶c̶k̶ Genius). Burden is the truth- thankfully Sly Stone's music endures. Sadly, some of the most astute observations come from D'Angelo- another recently lost genius gone too soon.

Saw Suffs in SF tonight and LOVED it. Smart, angry, funny, and deeply moving with great music and choreo performed by a superb cast. And timely- right now we all need to keep marching! 5 Damn Stars- a VERY memorable night at the theater!

A spooky re-up: back in 2011 my dastardly nemesis Dick Hate hijacked ALL KINDSA GIRLS #67 to present his sick & twisted HALLOWEEN AFRADIO SHOW playing songs about ZOMBIES by Roky Erickson, The Cramps, The Fleshtones and more! Dick Hate must be STOPPED! www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/oc4d8...

We've had a lot of "eat the rich" movies lately so I appreciate Aziz Ansari going another way in Good Fortune. It's a fun watch with an excellent cast that still gets his point across. Plus it pays homage to some personal favorites like Wings of Desire and It's a Wonderful Life.

Both the rage and the love are palpable in Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah's Chain Gang All Stars about the inevitable path our for-profit prison systems are on. A searing debut that reads like a thriller but reminds you of what's at stake on every page.

The world can seem like a dark place but then you go see Shonen Knife in Novato, CA and everything starts looking brighter. Rocking on a Tuesday isn’t easy yet we heeded the call and SK were amazing! Also, we learned that “novato” means “wild pigeon” in Japanese…

Becoming Led Zeppelin shows Jimmy Page's single-minded focus birthing not only a legendary band but also a new artist-driven model for the music industry. Even better, it's about the early days before their Behind The Music-esque "then things took a turn for the worse..." fall

Good Boy is a smart, scary horror movie featuring an amazing performance from the lead actor. What's more it's also a stunning achievement in film making as said actor did not know he was in a movie...

So sorry to hear about Ace Frehley's passing. He was a giant, an all-time favorite. I even had this poster on my wall. RIP to a true legend... youtu.be/LIi02Yx-3A8?...

In honor of the great Diane Keaton's passing we dialed up 1977's Looking For Mr. Goodbar. Wow! This film is HARDCORE, with a mind-blowing performance from Keaton. I'd put it alongside Mean Streets, Midnight Cowboy, and The Panic In Needle Park. How had we never seen this before!!

Michael Christie's Greenwood is all but guaranteed to be one of my Top 5 books of 2025. I love being carried away by a novel and this immersive family saga fit the bill perfectly. It not only shows where we've been but also where we're going (spoiler alert- it's nowhere good!)

Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another is awesome! First Aronofsky and Caught Stealing now this- auteurs are making genre pictures and I am HERE for it!!!

Christian Swegal's Sovereign shows how corrosive bad ideas can be. The film plays like a thriller until you remember it's based on a true story- then it's a tragedy. Nick Offerman (playing a Ron Swanson who breaks bad) and Jacob Tremblay are outstanding in the lead roles.
