This weekend, on a long autumn walk, I was asked: What is the one thing a first draft must have to make it effective?

It’s the voice at the heart of it all.

It needs to be strong enough that it takes us readers with it.

If you have a clear voice, everything else will follow.

Sometimes, we can add a lot of unnecessary context & miss the most interesting part of it all - your experience.
