Unsure if it was the right call to make the Magnolia soundtrack my go to alarms for my daily routine. Aimee Mann's voice blasting on my phone at 8AM in the morning makes waking up very effective but the volume it blasts out on terrifies me. (1/2)

The season 2 finale of #Severance gave us a TV adaptation of this meme and you wouldn't believe it but it resulted in one of the best episodes of television of the year:

It’s never too late to start masking. It doesn’t matter how many covid infections you’ve had, any infection delayed or prevented is a good thing.

You’re also helping protect others when you mask up. You’re breaking chains of transmission. You’re saving lives.

I spoke to a talented junior scientist who just got a good faculty job offer in the US and they told me “well I wouldn’t move to 1930s Germany either” so that’s how that’s going

“Disabled people have sacrificed so much over last 4 years. Every day another tool is taken away, accessibility reduced & our agency stripped back. We are constantly told we don’t deserve to survive”

My article from May on mask bans & eugenics.

Disabled people are begging you to listen:
We Are Witnessing Real Time Eugenics... and People Don't Seem to Care.
Mask bans and revocation of medical exemptions have been all over social media this week - and anti-maskers are reacting with glee. They are celebrating disabled people losing a tool for protection.

Wear a mask. Speak up. Support businesses run by marginalized and disabled individuals. Reach out to them and ask them how you can provide support.

Don’t leave us by the wayside.

I urge Americans to fight for the ADA. Fight for people in DEIA programs to keep their jobs

We are not “less than”. We’ve been fighting for survival in a world that sees us as expendable.

Taking our employment is just another step towards making us disappear forever. /6

They’ve also frozen all civil rights cases at the Justice Department, which is responsible for handling ADA complaints.

He explains that we’re moving to a “merit based” society… which is a fancy way of saying disabled and marginalized people not welcome.

Now they’re targeting federal employees in the “Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility” programs. They were ordered on paid leave yesterday & targeted for layoffs by Jan 31st.

They’re going to literally force them to “just stay home”. /4

Just stay home

How many comorbids do you have?

That person was probably going to die anyways

Survival of the fittest

The voices of those who hate us got louder and louder. Public spaces became increasingly unsafe, and we normalized large numbers of deaths and disability /3

When healthcare facilities dropped masking, we called out the 10% fatality rate of hospital acquired COVID. We again asked for support. We begged people not to view us as expendable.

What did we hear in response?? /2

Disabled people have been trying to warn the public for years that “you do you” Covid policies were leading to increased discrimination and eugenics attitudes.

When States began criminalizing masks, we pleaded for support. We asked our peers to wear a mask in solidarity. 🧵

Do one thing every day to help someone currently in harms way.

Learn how to identify and protect neighbours from ICE agents.

Stand up for the LGBTQ+ community.

Wear a mask in solidarity with the disabled community.

Learn about anti-Blackness and commit to doing better.

Don’t let hate win.
