Hey ... I've found a great Bluesky feature that makes things read like Reddit, making post replies far more conversational. You go into settings/thread preferences, sort by most-liked, and turn on 'thread mode'. Voila. You can still view your follows first if you prefer. Very cool feature

Anonymity can be very important for personal safety online. Labor's social media age ban is identity control via stealth. No age ban please @australianlabor.bsky.social It'll lose you the election too

The Coming Purge

Historically, one of the first actions authoritarian regimes take when consolidating power is to target intellectuals—writers, artists, academics. In the US, the signs of the coming purge are already here. Intellectuals should be aware. My first Bluesky thread follows 🧵 /1

'The war will end
The leaders will shake hands
The old woman will keep waiting for her martyred son
That girl will wait for her beloved husband
And those children will wait for their heroic father
I don’t know who sold our homeland
But I saw who paid the price.

The War Will End'

Panjaj Mishra interviewed in 2018. Still every bit as relevant today. At this US-dominated moment, it is good to consider empire from a wider point of view

Bluesky feels new and different, but when we look back years from now, I think Twitter will be viewed as the anomaly. Before Twitter, social media consisted of blogs. There were liberal/progressive blogs and conservative blogs and everybody sorta kept to their own. 🧵

We should be a little careful...
So y’all know that the lead investor in this place is a crypto company founded by Steve Bannon’s ex-business partner, right?

Is this true, I wonder?
From @wawog_now on twitter: 'Bluesky is apparently deleting the accounts of Palestinians in Gaza under the guise of “spam.” Requests to correct this have so far gone unanswered.'

I realise I am a warrior. When things go bad I turn towards reality, and run full tilt into its winds, metaphorical sword slashing through delusion, and a roar that draws its energy from some brutal, elemental force. There is no alternative. The battle is on.

We must be legion
