Take care of yourself—some of the topics are hard, worth it, but hard. You can manage it and take care of yourself, just ensure you prioritize it. #bsueng490

"It was the suspicion that my violence had been entirely human."
Ouch. That's a tough one. #BSUENG490

the light seems to be warmer when surrounding this man but not when foccusing on Alexia. Warmer but still scary. #bsueng490

I gotta say, good for Verna. Good for her… (Not so good for Bob, but it seems he deserved it) #bsueng490

I loved the tie back to all of the women that have come before her. "Whatever it is, it has already happened. If not to her than to someone." #BSUENG490

Precious reminded me of Anne Sexton's Transformations that I read in another class. I loved the revenge in the end, her ability to talk again without producing the jewelry made me happy too. #BSUENG490

To suggest that the feminist killjoy is a manifesto is not to say that we have an obligation to speak out. We are not all in the same posi-tion;we cannot all afford to speak out.Killing joy thus requires a communication system:we have to find other ways for the violence to become manifest #bsueng490

I would like to spend more time on the fact that the ships are actually living creatures. That is so freaking cool (and probably environmentally friendly). I would really like to have a better visual of these ships and to know what else is made of living beings--but also is this ethical? #bsueng490

“Some problems we share as women, some we do not. You fear your children will grow up to join the patriarchy and testify against you, we fear our children will be dragged from a car and shot down in the street, and you will turn your backs upon the reasons they are dying.” #bsueng490

Maybe I just missed it, but are the Khoush human too? Because she talks of them like they're another species but also like they're human? Like are they just another "tribe" or race or are they completely different? #bsueng490

“My nine sibling, all older than me except for my younger sister and brother” (Okorafor 9)
*me reading, with nine siblings, all older than me except for my younger sister and brother* so odd—if her younger sister is actually her (slightly younger) twin then i think this might be about me #bsueng490

”I'll never be free of her. I wear her face; as I get older it'll stay her changing mirror, the one glimpse of all the ages she never had. I lived her life, for a few strange bright weeks; her blood went into making me what I am, the same way it went to make the bluebells…” #bsueng490

I really love this comparison that all masculinities are not equal, but yet we still come back to this idea of performing gender--and the idea that you can and will be punished form performing your gender wrong. #BSUENG490

Cassie is getting way too lost in this... how will she end up? #bsueng490

Everything within this "friend" group seems so problematic--no pasts? The way they react to each other? The sneaking around? If no pasts then how do you really know the people you're living with? And Cassie's quick and easy involvement with them? This is not good... #BSUENG490

I honestly can't wait to see how this all plays out. I also was really struck by Cassie describing Whitethorn as home but for no particular reason. #BSUENG490

"You can't make a person, a human being with a first kiss and a sense of humor and a favorite sandwich, and then expect her to dissolve back into scribbled notes and whiskeyed coffee when she no longer suits your purposes" (French 8). #BSUENG490

I was surprised by the ending of the book. We got the "we" perspective again, but this time it was whole and coherent. I thought the ending would be awful, or brutal, but instead it was peaceful and beautiful. #BSUENG490

It's so interesting that Asughara cannot bring herself to make Ada do *it* while she is already struggling with the loss of Ewan or with the other pains she has--she cannot make it worse. #BSUENG490
