I've never understood the claim by some that all psilocybin mushrooms are interchangeable experience-wise and the only thing that matters is just the amount of psilocybin. That has never been my experience.

I put out a call for papers on the Mormon experience of psychedelics recently and the response has been both incredible and depressing. So many active members have reached out, which is incredible, but nearly all of them wish to stay anonymous because it might tank their credibility.

The mice that have been scurrying through the walls for months have now started squeaking to each other.
Cooperation is imminent. My cat's downfall is being plotted. They know she murdered one of them.
They are coming.

I've never had the apparently common dream of having teeth fall out. But ever since my cat got her teeth removed over a month ago I have a near daily nightmare of her or my other cat's teeth falling out or not healing after surgery.
Guess that's where my priorities lie!

Found this neat abstract (yay paywalls): psychedelics are the next big aid for dementia.
What I'm hearing is do drugs until the day you die!

My wife got a bunch of free multicultural picture books from a conference she went to. Picture books have gotten incredibly good. I'm stoked to eventually get to read these to kids!

I wonder if there's been any data collected on integrating a protective ritual into a psychedelic trip and its effect on the outcomes.
I'd assume there'd be a reduction in adverse challenging experiences across the board. There has been in my workings with people.

New post up on my substack! It's all about datura, my latest rabbit hole.
It's long been used as a medicine for various ailments despite the current negative sentiment towards it.
Next up will be a post looking at the magical and ritual uses of it!

Thinking through the connection between psychomagic and ancient psychoactive magic.
Psychoactives played 2 roles: getting into the psychomagic headspace and being a sympathetic type connection.

"Magic and science represent needs of the imagination, and the transition from a society dominated by magic to a predominantly scientific society is explicable primarily by a change in the imaginary. . . Nowadays, if we can boast of having at our disposal scientific knowledge. . .

If Christians take seriously the idea that Jesus experienced everything each human has experienced then Jesus is the most experienced psychonaut ever to live! Think about that!

New substack post is up: "The Interconnected Self" in which I outline how we are connected to everything around us.
The cities we live in provide a framework for how we live our lives and help shape who we are.

There are more ways of being in the world, experiences to be had, and ideas to be considered than you or I could ever dream of learning about in a hundred or thousand lifetimes.
All that possibility is open to us-all we have to do is be curious about other worldviews and other people's experiences.

I just watched the most hilarious interaction between a couple of quail (Lulu & Skip). They come around every so often and I was out in my little front yard with my cats. The quail come running around the corner, see my cats, stop, and immediately start screaming at each other.

What are the best things people have read about the idea of grit/tenacity/resolve? Historical examples, psychological literature, spiritual, any thing touching on the topic. I'm also curious how people view developing grit or go about it themselves!

I'm at least 20x more likely to read a book if I can get my hands on a physical copy of it than an ebook. I love ebooks for reference and to be able to search terms quickly but being able to physically read and feel the book makes me dive in deeper and pay closer attention.

Btw I love that Jonny uses the term "co-creations" here. I think it gets lost on many (myself included sometimes) that there is a central human component to the art AI generates. Everything that has been generated thus far is a co-creative venture *between* human and AI.
Here are a few more mid-journey co-creations:

I like this idea. Here goes:

I'm Alex! I call myself a philosopher because to me it seems synonymous with curiosity and trying to make sense of the world. Philosophy informs a lot of my thinking and has shaped me quite a bit.
