I wrote that thing you might have read that one time. Worked on everything from Castlevania to Pokemon, & have had a hand in several TTRPGs over the years. If you want to see an old Goth post pictures of painted miniatures or a horde of cats, here you go.

Day 61: Call of Cthulhu
It’s CoC. Chaosium is in its third incarnation, but BRP has only had slight Botox with each passing edition. Compare that to D&D‘s editions.
The best in our industry have written for it, played it, & worshipped it as a dark master in secret covens posing as TTRPG groups.

Day 61: VtM
What really needs to be said about this. VTM is the most successful and influential game after D&D. (Maybe CoC takes that these days). It gave us the biggest LARP, a prime time drama after X-Files, WWF’s The Brood, and brought women to gaming in large droves for the first time ever.

Day 59: Vaesen
I love Free League for bringing over a lot of foreign language RPGs. Vaesen is my favorite of the lot they are doing. Vaesan is such a great alternative to the other “real world” horror games, that are usually cosmic horror or Word of Darkness based. The art is so unique too.

Day 58: Mummy: The Curse
The New World of Darkness has their own Mummy game and it is utterly different from the OWOD version, or any game really. I would only call it a horror game because you play as mummies, but really is is an amazingly look at introspection, morality, power and sanity.

Day 57: Old Gods of Appalachia.
You know what? I own & enjoy reading it, but I have never found anyone willing to run or play a game of it. It’s a shame too, because it’s a nice alternative to the usual cosmic horror RPG. It uses the Cypher System, like Numenera, which can also be quite horrific.

Day 56: Mork Borg
The Borg line has been my favorite new game in decades, if only for the cracktastic spin-offs 3rd parties have come up with. Usually the third party stuff for lines like D&D, VtM & etc are just too subpar to mention, but the Borg stuff is just consistently tremendous.

Day 55: Werewolf: The Wild West.
W3 was an attempt to recapture the magic of Vampire: The Dark Ages. As was Mage: The Sorcerer’s Crusade & Wraith: The Great War. None of these captured the imagination or magic of TDA, but W3 at least received multiple supplements & even a Wraith crossover or two.

Day 54: Macabre Tales.
This is one of the more unique RPGs out there. It is for a single player and a narrator & they weave a tale together. It’s also only meant to be for one shots, as protagonists rarely repeated in actual HPL tales. It also uses dominoes instead of dice for a fun mechanic.

Day 53: Visigoth Vs. Mall Goths.
It’s more Bill & Ted meets Empire Records, but there’s Goths, it is near Halloween & the game is pretty smutty which is horrifying to homo and transphobes alike. I could pick something spookier, but I’m going with this because it’s fun & deserves more eyes on it.

Day 52: Werewolf: The Apocalypse
Werewolf was always the #2 WoD TTRPG. It was incredibly good; just harder to LARP. It was a game about unreliable narrating eco warriors trying to save existence from Captain Planet style evil. Except as the metaplot advanced - you learned that wasn’t quite true.

Day 51: They Came From…
Onyx Path gave us a fun weird horror RPG series that covers the gauntlet from Roger Corman & Sandy Frank B-Movies to slasher flicks & Harryhausen films. When they lost the WoD license, it didn’t set them back at all; the just made games like this Pugmire and Curseborne.

Day 50: Totem
Totem is a relatively recent Italian TTRPG that uses a spirit board and planchette for play. It’s a bit thin for a core rulebook and the audience is niche, but the art is amazing and it’s a nice outside the box idea. Worth tracking down as a curiosity.

Day 49: Conspiracy X.
Spawning 2 editions and a GURPS version, it is easy to label Conspiracy X, “The X-Files TTRPG,” or “Another Delta Green,” but both do a disservice to the game. Unfortunately, only a few titles from each edition are available in PDF form.

Day 48: Mummy
A lot of people think Werewolf was the 2nd OWoD game. Mummy came out nearly a year before it. While it was called a sourcebook for the first 2 editions, it was a complete character making rules & background fluff. 3e would see Mummy finally treated like the other 5 core OWoD games.

Day 47: Demon Hunters
Powered by FATE and brought to you by the makes of JourneyQuest and The Gamers, we have a comedy-horror RPG based on one of the lesser known properties. This is actually the 2e. The first was very different, by Margaret Weis Productions & just didn’t do the property justice.
