“Yes, the Fediverse is sometimes clunky, nerdy, uncomfortable. But it belongs to us. It’s not over-regulated, not driven by capital, not buggered up by algorithms. It’s what social media once aspired to be: A network of people, not brands.“ Via @hildabast

I like the term 'traumatic masculinity' more than 'toxic masculinity'.

It provides greater clarity to both cause and effect. "Toxic masculinity" doesn't snap into existence fully formed, it is caused by the traumatizing way we raise men. And its effects are that it further traumatizes - women […]

Interesting to see new non-Chromium browsers launching. First Orion (Webkit) https://orionbrowser.com @kagihq and now Zen (Gekko) @zenbrowser – and not forgetting of course @servo which continues to make great strides: servo.org.

Orion — a web browser designed from the ground-up. Native WebKit speed, full extension compatibility, and absolute privacy is finally together in one browser that respects you.

I really wish people would stop equating "not selling user data" with privacy. None of the tech giants sell, or even share your data with third parties directly. They would be stupid to, it's their most valuable asset. They hoard it! Doesn't mean they don't collect & use every bit of it themselves.

Re: The last part of the above quote, i.e. "Too often in this industry hardware is used to solve software problems."

This one will be quickly coming home to roost in the coming year(s)... Regardless of other Moore's Law aspects losing validity (or past tense already), the "law" also never […]

Spent last two days recovering and rediscovering LAN in @diversight.ai office. Cables cut and rerouted to the new 10" rack. Fished new cable to the EdgeRouter. Also labeled most of the cables with socket number so it will be easier in the future to do something with it.

Junioři bývají z programátorských srazů, konferencí, a dalších míst, kde se odehrává onen bájný „networking”, většinou spíš vystrašení.

Ta věta by teda byla pravda, i pokud bych místo junioři napsal prostě lidi 😀 Každý jsme nějaký. Někdo se rád druží, jiný […]

The two relics of exploding stars are black holes and neutron stars.
Both were discovered by women.
Jocelyn Bell discovered neutron stars, in the guise of “pulsars”, in 1967.
Since then, three Nobel prizes have gone to male scientists for their work on pulsars, but none to Bell.
Louise Webster […]
