New insights on #CampiFlegrei earthquakes 🧠
Our paper in @commsearth.nature.com shows that <10% of released energy radiates as seismic waves — the rest is dissipated as heat and rock damage, acting as a natural cap on magnitude.

🚨 New in Nature Scientific Reports! We compare two #Earthquake Early Warning methods:
⚡ PLUM = high accuracy, short lead-times
⚡ QuakeUp = earlier alerts (up to 12s), but less stable at first

On Mar 18, 2025, a Mw4.0 quake near Potenza showed normal faulting. ~2.2 MPa stress drop, MMI VI (~4.9%g) near epicenter, complex extension. Early-warning worked in seconds. Innovative monitoring (DAS, apps) boosted real-time resilience.

Today’s Md 3.9 earthquake at Campi Flegrei showed how rupture directivity can shape ground shaking patterns. Data reveal a WSW increase in PGV, pointing to eastward rupture propagation. Insights like this help us understand seismic behavior in volcanic settings. Data: INGV & DPC networks.
