Bore me (not): boredom impairs recognition memory but not the pupil old/new effect - Alexandra Lapteva, Sarah Schnyder, Wanja Wolff, Corinna S. Martarelli, 2025
Mind-wandering and boredom are common phenomena, characterized by shifts in attention and difficulties in sustaining focus. Despite extensive research on the co...

📢 Call for Papers: Special Issue on Boredom! 📢

Boredom signals unsatisfactory interactions with our inner & outer worlds. For HSSComms, @corimartarelli.bsky.social & I are editing a collection exploring it through diverse lenses & methods 🤩

We have recently published a meta-analysis with
@corimartarelli.bsky.social 🔔
We explored if the pupil old/new effect is a reliable measure of recognition memory (it is), and if task and sample characteristics moderate the effect (some of them do).

Pupil old/new effect as an objective measure of recognition memory: a meta-analysis of 17 eye-tracking experiments
Recognition memory, the ability to recognise previously encountered information, correlates with pupil diameter changes during the recognition period. This physiological response, known as the pupi...

I was thrilled to present my poster on ▪️The role of the pupil old/new effect in tracking the effects of mind-wandering and boredom on memory▪️ this past summer at the International Conference on Motivation & Emotion (ICM 2024) at the University of Bern (icm2024.unibe.ch)

🚀Excited to start sharing insights from my research journey! Exploring how mind-wandering (and boredom) impact memory, with a side focus on eye behavior and recognition.
Also very curious to connect with fellow researchers in cognitive science and memory research 🧠
