Problems: There's no "i" or "v" in my name. Also no 2nd "h" & no 3rd "n" or "e". And the OED doesn't know from mannels.

AI can't anagram my name. Each real man can.

Fascinating.

My Graphic History! course is a month away, so I must be reading "Consulting the Map: Bil Keane’s dotted-line drawings in The Family Circus and comics cartography."

Whenever I hear stories of "Canadian" animals spotted in the UK, I first wonder if they're the descendants of donated Canadian national park ones that escaped. It's happened.

Here are beaver heading to London, Eng, 1946. 2 died in the traps, another in transit. heritage.canadiana.ca/view/oocihm....

Just learned that “Hamnet” was published as “Hamnet & Judith” in 🇨🇦 & only 🇨🇦.

Let’s spend some productive Friday night time tracking down & doxxing the know-better marketing hoser who decided that.

Cause-&-effect assumes history marches forward, but history is not an army. It is a crab scuttling sideways, a drip of soft water wearing away stone....

We've had 60 applicants for CHESS 2026 on PEI -- ie, a lot, ie, more than we can handle! Thanks to everyone who's applied; we'll be making some tough decisions in the next while. Stay tuned.

Taught this in my #envhist class today & was reminded how superb it is not just on doing animal history, but on doing history, full stop. press.ucalgary.ca/books/978177...

But I do wish they'd chosen this as the cover.

This is well worth reading (& watching). In particular, it's by far the most direct articulation of what @nichecanada.bsky.social has been up to over the past decade. Kudos, @micaamy.bsky.social!

Once upon a time, Ryan O'Connor & I interviewed & wrote about PEI back-to-the-landers & their kids ("children of the hummus").

Happy to report UPEI's Island Voices is now archiving all the interviews & the resulting essays. Take a look & listen. islandvoices.ca/collection/b...

my take:

high Ont prof $ =
fewer $ available for grad students, sessionals, & tenure-track hires =
fewer grad students, sessionals, & tenure-track hires =
far more work & far worse job for Ont profs =
high Ont prof $ becomes more justified!
