I am a freshwater ecosystems ecologist at the Natural Resources Research Institute (NRRI), University of Minnesota located in Duluth, MN.

I am also a proud dog mom to a chiweenie named Oliver.
Spent a couple of days in the lovely peatlands of northern Minnesota installing and maintaining equipment to measure gas fluxes.

Just out in PNAS - Been thinking about these three graphs for nearly a decade with a great team of smart colleagues. We finally have a story to tell that makes these interesting observations make sense. doi.org/10.1073/pnas...

It was a fun afternoon of sharing the work we do at @umnnrri.bsky.social to visitors for our open house last week. Lots of science and work to be shared! My role was to talk about our awesome eddy covariance towers and peatlands in Minnesota!
We had an excellent open house last Friday afternoon at NRRI Duluth! Thanks to everyone who made it out for interesting discussion on opportunities for MN to lead the transformation of bedrock industries. Thanks to #WDIO for event coverage: bit.ly/46mgprw

Superior National Forest seasonal ponds are drying quickly! We are down to 2/9 of or study sites with water yet. We did however sample some of these lovely Dytiscidae larvae from one pond that will likely be gone tomorrow.

When you're a limnologist you worry about lakes and water quality. NRRI's Chris Filstrup was concerned after the 2021 Greenwood Fire and quickly jumped into research mode, launching a study to find out more. This year, that work is even more important. bit.ly/4dAfRj4

Wildfires could leave lakes murky for years
Research that began after the 2021 Greenwood Fire seeks to understand how wildfires affect a lake’s water quality, and for how long. It also looks at what that means for mercury accumulation in fish.

Well done Hasara! 🎉🎉
Last week, I successfully defended my master's thesis. I would like to extend special thanks to my wonderful advisor, Dr. Amber Ulseth @ajulseth.bsky.social.

As I celebrate this milestone, I am excited to explore more opportunities to learn about fascinating flowing waters.

Anyone have experience using the Onset HOBO MX Water Level Data loggers? I have used the Hobo U20L-01 for many years, but am interested in the MX series as they can be downloaded via bluetooth in the field. Any experiences for recommending the MX loggers or if you all found any major issues?
