“I’m legally not allowed to.”

“As far as we’re concerned, you didn’t vote.”

I wonder what was in the mind of the Indian chef who named their latest concoction "Manchurian sauce" - of all places of China, modern and historical, why Manchuria?

The feeling of seeing crystals forming upon the addition of antisolvent. Sublime.

How do they diffract?
I don’t think I’ve ever had more fun in the lab than when I was making MOFs myself (and trying to use them for small-molecule X-ray structure determination). So let me celebrate by posting a few of the MOF crystals I prepared:

I envied the (shockingly disturbing, in retrospect) optimism of some of my coworkers a few months ago.

So, umm, my twitter accountt seems to have been hacked, as it sent me a message telling me that there was a new sign-in at a location I am not at.

Once I regain the access, I'll terminate my twitter account like I should have and did once a few years ago.

It wasn’t until seeing World of Warcraft’s Bluesky account did I realize that this site has, as they say, blown up.

Judging by the exit poll, about 20% of Trump supporters are voting for him bcuz they know he's a fascist and they like it

50% just think Trump will lower prices somehow, and willing to overlook every effing red flag right in front of them
I'd be curious to see some interviews with the NC voters who were like "can't bring myself to vote for the Black Nazi for Governor, but the white Nazi seems ok to me."

ACS national meeting is always such a glorious chaos where you see everyone from everywhere doing everything, and you eventually run out of yourselves to attend all the symposia you want to go to because you're not an electron.

I’m not sure how rational it is, but I worry that if we’re already seeing big shot school alumni diffusing into my dingy department for tenure track positions, there’s little hope for us in larger R1 institutes no matter how upward our career trajectories may be.

So the two PIs I reached out to couldn’t offer a postdoc position. At least they replied within 24h.

So yesterday I celebrated the publication of my first first-author paper with lab mates - it was accepted last year and went online last month, so the celebration was quite delayed.
Can’t say I didn’t at all feel a bit sad when it was over, but that’s life, I guess.
