I wrote about making Unseen Routes—a short film and meditation on memory, spirit, and place—and what it taught me about home, return, and the stories buried under our feet. It’s up now on Electric Relaxation.

Thanks to homie @aieshaturman.bsky.social, I've been into tiny houses, which eventually led me to meet one of leaders of the movement, Jewel Pearson!

Her latest email asks for signatures to have tiny houses on wheels be a part of the International Residential Code. Pls sign:

The latest from the brilliant @thefrankiedlc.news on this latest dumb (and harmful!) "trend" of throwing sex toys at WNBA games.

"A man throwing a sex toy shaped like a male anatomy at a women’s sporting event is perpetuating rape culture, plain and simple."

Throwing sex toys on court at WNBA games is about power, not humor
This latest 'trend' is not funny. It's harassment

One year ago, I came home to the city where I was born and hadn’t lived in since I was 6. Toni Morrison said the isms exist to pull us from our work. I’ve been clearing the noise so I can keep doing mine. New post about this return → www.aieshaturman.com/new-roots-ne...

Dr. King’s I Have a Dream speech is often celebrated for its beauty, but what if we looked deeper? What if we saw it for what it truly was—a bold act of Black radical imagination? In this piece, I explore how his dream wasn’t just about hope but a call to reimagine and rebuild the world.
Vision as Resistance: Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Black Futures and Revolutionary Imagination
When we talk about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his I Have a Dream speech, it’s tempting to reduce it to a string of lofty phrases or a feel-good hallmark of American progress. It’s become the kind ...

I loved teaching Frankenstein to 11th graders. One year I was able to take them to the Frankenstein exhibit at The Morgan and they loved it. There had fragments of Shelley’s skull on display.
On this day in 1818 Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is first published, by 20-year-old Mary Shelley, the world’s first science fiction novel.

My 2024 reading recap from @thestorygraph.com and the books I plan to read for Q1. I listened to a lot of audiobooks while unpacking from my move. I also tend to buy books and let them sit until they are ready to be read.

My goal is 24 books, not including what I read for work.

I didn’t make make my reading quota of 50 books (outside of what I read for work/teaching) and I am ok with that. I’m at 41 and will hit 42 tomorrow.

This year I am going to half that amount. Compiling my list of books for Q1 now and I will continue to use @thestorygraph.com I love the interface.

Just finished Keke Palmer’s memoir Master of Me.

I wish I had it when I was in my 20s and I’m getting a copy for my daughter.

I am not the target audience, but I’m a believer that we can and should learn from younger folk and intergenerational relationships and mentoring are important.

Loved it!
