A great opportunity to study in some beautiful environments with a fantastic advisor
I will have an opening for a Ph.D. student (M.S. required) to begin Summer 2026, studying impacts to high Appalachian arthropod communities following Hurricane Helene.

I'll be at Ent. Soc. America meetings next week. Please point interested students my way.

Spiders get around
High elevation litter spiders of southern Appalachia show less local endemism than other arthropods - ballooning by spiderlings apparently overcomes geographic isolation. A great collaboration with @forthespiders.bsky.social & Ernesto Recuero

I asked a student worker for an alphabetized list of families in a cabinet. Naturally he asked #AI to do it and then explained to me that Chat made some mistakes, but it was close enough. The kids might actually be doomed.

The aedeagus (male genitalia) of a common eastern US Pselaphine beetle, Arthmius globicollis. The genitalia have never been illustrated, so species identification has always been dicey. The left one is from South Carolina, the right from Missouri. Pretty different, maybe cryptically so.
