The most consequential decisions affecting your daily life are probably being made by people whose names you don't know, in meetings you don't attend, about documents you haven't read.

Conversations about civic issues don't have to be contentious. Imagine if we approached them with curiosity instead of certainty. "Help me understand your perspective" goes further than "let me tell you why you're wrong."

Two things can be true: Our democratic systems need serious reform AND your participation in them as they exist today still matters. Don't wait for perfect systems to engage.
