I saw the movie on Sunday, with my daughter who has somehow never seen either TRON (BluRay, DVD) or TRON: Legacy (BluRay, DVD). I'll fix that.I went into the movie having read very little of any press/preview stuff. I think I saw the trailer when it first came out, but between being busy with work and other things, it wasn't a priority.

Photo is of a cat treat I recently fished out of a printer. My own printer. I can't believe my life sometimes....

So the thing here is that I never asked to be signed up for their mailing list. Ever. And this is to my work email, which I'm a little more fast and loose with, but.... I never would have chosen to sign up for a cellular companies emails because: we don't have corporate phones if we did, I wouldn't be managing the account, I'd be managing the devices…

I've had some equipment returned to me at work, and I need to backup the data before I can wipe the machines. So now I wait, as many gigabytes of data fly past me over the wifi (unlucky) and ethernet (very lucky), and hope that I don't have to interact with the backup processes on these machines. Amusing that as we've moved into our digital homes, we care less about organization and more about capacity. One users desktop has so many files littering it that I can barely see the desktop photo behind them all....

Over the years, I've had and used a number of printers in a variety of situations. By far, my favorite was a workhorse of a printer that I had at work: The HP LaserJet 1200, first introduced in 2001. I was at that job for almost 18 years, and I had it in my office for about 12 of those years.

If you use AppleMail and any kind of spam filtering, you know that sometimes things get through and you didn't want it. Despite having filtering at the domain level, and an anti-spam filter on my computer, stuff still gets through. It sucks.

It used to be that just creating a "robots.txt" file would be enough to stop your site from being crawled by webspiders intent on indexing the internet. Now you can't even count on that, apparently: Perplexity is using stealth, undeclared crawlers to evade website no-crawl directives I've been dealing with various versions of this on my websites as well as some others that I help run.

Daily writing prompt What do you listen to while you work? View all responses In the morning, news podcasts. When those run out, I either listen to my backlog of podcasts, or music from my library. I try to mix it up, but sometimes I'll hear a song that sends me to an album and then I end up in the "similar music" rabbit hole.... It's produced some good results though.

I used to have an RSS feed for a bunch of comics I like to read. And then the criminal organization, I mean syndicate, went after the service that did the conversion from web page to RSS feed: So I decided to suck it up and go to the syndicate's website - only I'm using a browser and super-restrictive ad blocker, so I guess I'm still not making them money? Thus the enshittification of the internet slowly continues....

Like many people, I get lots of calls from numbers I don't recognize - today was no exception. The surprise came when I got a VM, which is much rarer these days. The message speaks for itself.... (Since I'm trying to post more, I was going thru my drafts to see what I had started and see if I could post anything. This one is.... almost 7 years old, which makes it that much weirder....)

As someone who loves to take photos, there's a lot you can do in things like software when you take a photo. But what about when you take the photo? There's all kinds of lenses available, but sometimes you want something a little different. Like... maybe the lens out a disposable camera. Like.... something like that but adapted so that you can use it with your modern camera.
